নারী দুটি ক্ষেত্রে বসবাস করে: সার্বজনীন ক্ষেত্র ও ব্যক্তিগত ক্ষেত্র। সার্বজনীন ক্ষেত্রে তার জন্য নারীদের সঙ্গে, মাহরাম পুরুষদের সঙ্গে এবং বিদেশি পুরুষদের সঙ্গে (অর্থাৎ যাদের সঙ্গে সে বিবাহ করতে পারে) বসবাস করার অনুমতি আছে, তবে শর্ত হলো তার মুখমণ্ডল ও হাত ছাড়া অন্য কিছু প্রকাশ করা যাবে না, পোশাক আকর্ষণীয় হবে না, এবং অলংকার প্রকাশ্যে প্রদর্শন করা যাবে না। আর ব্যক্তিগত ক্ষেত্রে সে নারী ও তার মাহরাম ছাড়া অন্য কারও সঙ্গে বসবাস করার অনুমতি পায় না, এবং অনাত্মীয়/বিদেশি পুরুষদের সঙ্গে বসবাস করাও তার জন্য অনুমোদিত নয়। উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই শরীয়তের সকল বিধান তার জন্য প্রযোজ্য।

The woman lives in public and private spheres; in the public sphere she is permitted to live with women, Maharim men, and foreign men (men whom she can marry) on the condition that nothing other than her face and hands can be revealed, and that the clothing is not revealing, besides there is not any open display of adornments. As for the private sphere, she is not permitted to live with anyone other than women and her Maharim, and she is not permitted to live with unrelated/foreign men. She is restricted by all the Shari’ah rules in both spheres.
