Les Juifs méprisaient les Musulmans avant la bataille de Badr. Depuis la victoire des Musulmans, leur mépris et leur haine n'ont fait que croître. Ils commençaient à comploter et à intriguer contre les Musulmans chaque fois qu'ils en avaient l'occasion, et ne se souciaient guère de rompre le traité qu'ils avaient signé avec eux. La réponse des Musulmans fut dure et ferme chaque fois que les Juifs dépassaient les bornes. Un récit typique de la malveillance juive est reflété dans l'incident qui s'est produit sur le marché de Banu Qaynuqa’.

The Jews had held the Muslims in contempt before the battle of Badr. Ever since the Muslim victory their contempt and hatred increased all the more. They began plotting and scheming against the Muslims whenever they had the chance, and cared nothing about breaking the treaty that they had signed with them. The Muslims’ response was harsh and firm everytime the Jews stepped out of line. A typical tale of Jewish mischief is reflected in the incident that took place in the market of Banu Qaynuqa’.

Une femme musulmane s'y rendit et s'assit dans une bijouterie avec ses parures. Un homme juif s'approcha d'elle par derrière et cloua l'arrière de sa robe avec une épine. Lorsqu'elle se leva, son vêtement se détacha et les Juifs se mirent tous à rire d'elle de manière insultante. Elle appela à l'aide, un musulman à proximité répondit et tua le Juif. À la suite de cela, les Juifs se rassemblèrent et tuèrent le musulman. La famille du martyr musulman appela les musulmans à punir les Juifs, ils le firent et un combat s'ensuivit ainsi entre eux.

A Muslim woman went there and sat at a jeweler’s shop with her ornaments. A Jewish man approached her from behind and nailed the back of her dress with a thorn. When she arose her garment came off and the Jews all laughed at her insultingly. She called for help and a nearby Muslim responded and killed the Jew. Following this, the Jews assembled together and killed the Muslim. The family of the Muslim martyr called on the Muslims to punish the Jews, they did so and a fight thus ensued between them.

Le Messager d'Allah ﷺ avait demandé aux Juifs de cesser leurs provocations et leurs méfaits, mais ils montrèrent des signes de rébellion et de défi ; il sortit donc avec les Musulmans et encercla Banu Qaynuqa’ de tous côtés, les assiégeant dans leurs quartiers. Le Messager d'Allah ﷺ décida, après avoir consulté les Musulmans, de tous les tuer pour leur trahison. Cependant, ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, qui entretenait de bonnes relations tant avec les Musulmans qu'avec les Juifs, alla vers lui ﷺ et le supplia en disant : « Ô Muhammad, sois indulgent envers eux. » Le Messager d'Allah ﷺ l'ignora d'abord, et il répéta sa supplication, mais le Messager d'Allah ﷺ l'ignora toujours.

Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) had asked the Jews to stop their provocation and mischief, but they showed signs of rebellion and defiance so he went out with the Muslims and surrounded Banu Qaynuqa’ from every angle besieging them in their quarters. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) decided after consulting the Muslims to kill them all for their treachery. However, ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul who was on good terms with both Muslims and Jews, went to him (pbuh) and pleaded with him saying, “O Muhammad, be lenient with them.” Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) ignored him at first and he repeated the plea, but the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) still ignored him.

Ensuite, ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul persista dans ses supplications, alors le Messager d'Allah ﷺ décida de satisfaire son souhait par faveur envers lui, à condition que les Banu Qaynuqa’ quittent Madinah. Ils quittèrent Madinah en direction du nord jusqu'à ce qu'ils atteignent Adhra’at en al-Sham.

Then ‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul persisted in his pleading, so Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) decided to grant him his wish as a favor to him provided Banu Qaynuqa’ left Madinah. They departed from Madinah heading north until they reached Adhra’at in al-Sham.
