Ao final das etapas escolares e depois de o aluno concluir com êxito 36 períodos letivos, ele presta o exame geral, ou seja, o "Exame Geral das Etapas Escolares". O aluno também pode concluir a etapa com êxito sem prestar o exame geral; existem institutos industriais e profissionalizantes que, em princípio, não exigem que o aluno obtenha o exame geral das etapas escolares.

At the end of the school stages and after the student successfully completes 36 terms, he sits the general exam i.e. “General Examination for the School Stages.” The student can also successfully complete the stage without taking the general exam; there are industrial and vocational institutes that do not in principle require the student’s attaining the general examination for the school stages.

O "Exame Geral" é realizado duas vezes por ano. A primeira vez no mês de Jumada Al-Awwal de cada ano, e a segunda vez no mês de Shawwal. Os especialistas definem a data para a realização da prova e o cronograma do exame a cada ano. O aluno escolhe se fará o exame no mês de Jumada Al-Awwal ou no de Shawwal por meio de sua pré-inscrição para o exame.
